Eucalan Delicate Wash
Benefits of using Eucalan Delicate Wash
Eucalan is a rinse free formula, releasing dirt and debris from the fibers and into the water. This lends itself to treating the trickiest and most delicate items.
- Saves your fine garments from extra wear
- Reduces water consumption
- Naturally conditions fibers
Why no-rinse?
Eucalan’s formula doesn't require that it be rinsed. With your first soak in Eucalan, you should likely see the water in the wash basin turn a bit brown. The soap releases dirt into the wash basin, & though the clothing absorbs a little of the soap, it is beneficial. Lanolin fortifies & conditions clothing fibers; This is particularly great for woolens & knits but can be used on most anything.
Scented with only pure essential oils, some of them contain long-term cleaning properties that are intended to remain in the clothing to further benefit from; Think blankets & knitted sweaters that get packed away for the cold months.
Eucalan’s no-rinse formula is also convenient – great for travel when you’re not likely to have a washing machine or are seeking to conserve water.
If you still feel the urge to rinse, it is safe to do so. The soap has done its job of cleaning, though you will lose the lasting effects of the lanolin & essential oils.

Laundry Lessons
Handwashing Basics
- Fill sink or bowl with lukewarm water.
- Add 1 tsp of Eucalan per 1 gallon of water.
- Submerge garment in water.
- Gently swish the garment around but be careful to not agitate the water too much.
- Soak for about 15 minutes.
- Drain the water from the sink or bowl and press any excess water out of the sweater. Do not wring the water out as this can cause stretching and felting.
Note: Wool sweaters do not need to be washed after each wear. If some care is taken, washing can be avoided. For example, wear a light t-shirt under your sweater to protect it from body odors or hang it outside for 15-30 minutes to freshen it up from smells of food or smoke. Spot cleaning can be great too!
For woolens in particular, no rinse is an important concept. Wool fiber has barbs on it that have a tendency to link together when agitated or washed in the wrong temperature of water. This leads to "felting" and shrinking. Using a no rinse product ensures that the water temperature is not being changed between the wash and rinse water. It also means that you are handling the fibers less and decreasing the danger of "felting" it. The lanolin in Eucalan is a natural conditioner for wool, so it helps to increase the loft of the fiber and decrease the itchiness of wool by relaxing the barbs.
Drying and Blocking
- When you’re picking up the wet garment be sure to support it from below. If you lift if from the top the weight of the water in the sweater can cause it to stretch.
- Squeeze the water out of your garment.
- Roll it in a clean, dry towel to remove excess moisture.
- Lay the item on a dry towel and shape the garment back into its original shape.
- Allow your sweater to dry completely, away from direct sunlight or heat.
- DO NOT USE A DRYER! We're sure you already knew that but sometimes things get thrown into the dryer as a matter of habit and you end up with a tiny shrunken sweater. Never put wool in a dryer. Seriously, don’t do it.
- However, a garment made with Superwash wool SHOULD be dried in a dryer as to help the item return to their original shape.
Pilling
Sometimes even the nicest wools and cashmere may pill where there is friction on the garment (like the underarms or shoulders). Pills are the little balls of fiber that start to gather on your sweater and can make the garment look shabby if not removed. These annoying little balls of fiber can be quickly taken care of with a Gleener. This keeps your sweater looking fresh and new.
Storing
When you are finished wearing your sweater for the season, it is important to put it away clean and in a sealed container if possible. Pests like moths are attracted to body smells and will quickly eat a hole in your treasured garment if it is not cleaned before storing it away. Also, body oils, perfumes and deodorants can discolour fabric over time.
- We recommend washing stored garments using Eucalan's Eucalyptus or Lavender scents to deter the pests.
- Be sure to allow it to dry completely, then wrap your garment in several sheets of tissue paper and store in a sealed container.
- For extra protection, you can purchase sachets of lavender or cedar disks to put in the container with your garment. One great benefit of going this route is that everything will smell fantastic when you open the box to use your sweaters again.
- If you have concerns that moths may be in your knits, place the article in a plastic bag and put in the coldest part of your freezer for 2 days to kill moths and larvae. During hot summer weather put garments in a black trash bag and put in car trunk for a few days to kill the moths and larvae.
- If you continue to find moth damage, put a sticky trap inside your storage containers, drawers, closets. We recommend using BUG M.D. Clothes Moths Boss. Replace once a month for a few months then you should see less moths and can replace the trap every three months.
