Learn the components of a hand knit sock and how those components are knit in a top down basic (vanilla) slipper sock using worsted weight yarn.
Prerequisites: Must be able to do the long tail cast on, knit and purl, slip stitches, k2tog, ssk without supervision. Must be able to knit in the round with double pointed or magic loop needles. Homework must be completed prior to first class. If you want to learn how to knit using a magic loop, take the class scheduled for February 8th "Magic Loop Technique Skillbuilder"
HOMEWORK: Please have this ready to bring to the first class. If you need help with this, make an appointment with Linda for about 15 minutes (cost: $5)

Materials
- 1 skein of Plymouth Encore or Galway (light colors are easiest to learn with)
- 40" needle or double pointed needles in a size to get 5 stitches to with worsted weight yarn (6 or 7)
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
Purchase Materials at Northampton Wools to ensure you have the appropriate yarn and needles.
At the end of the class, we will talk about other sock constructions (toe up, afterthought and other heel and toe types), as well as what makes a good everyday sock yarn.
