Anatomy of a Sock Skillbuilder - Northampton Wools
A class in which you will develop an understanding of the components of a hand knit sock and how those components are knit in a top down basic (vanilla) slipper sock using worsted weight yarn
Prerequisites: Must know long tail cast on, knit and purl, slip stitches, k2tog, ssk. Must be able to knit in the round with double pointed or magic loop needles.
Come with your to a Saturday help session with a size 40" needle sized to get 5 stitches to an inch using Uptown Worsted (US6 as a suggested starting point).
Matrrials
- 1 skein of Plymouth Encore or other worsted weight yarn
- 40" needle or double pointed needles in a size to get 5 stitches to with worsted weight yarn
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle

German twisted cast on
Ribbed cast on
Knitting in the round
Anatomy of a sock: leg, heel flap, heel turn, gusset, foot, toe
Slip stitches (knitwise/purlwise)
Pick up and knit
Kitchener stitch
At the end of the class, we will talk about other sock constructions (toe up, afterthought and other heel and toe types), as well as what makes a good everyday sock yarn.
